Salwa’s days at school are overshadowed by Abdul, the stern teacher who seems determined to single her out. He mocks her, blocks her from lessons, humiliates her before classmates, and accuses her of lacking the modesty expected of a young woman. Salwa cannot understand why he treats her with such hostility when he is respected by her family and admired by many students. His conduct leaves her hurt, angry, and increasingly isolated, while even her mother struggles to see the harm behind Abdul’s polished reputation. Beneath the public quarrels, however, Abdul’s attention toward Salwa appears more complicated than simple dislike. His family also depends on him, particularly his beloved young relative Sultan, and his standing in the household makes his choices difficult to ignore. As Salwa’s family begins considering a marriage proposal from Nazir, a calm and religious young man, the tension surrounding her future grows. Salwa must face the consequences of Abdul’s accusations, the expectations placed on her, and the possibility that the person causing her greatest pain may be tied to the direction her life is taking.
