In Yola, sixteen-year-old Aysher Usman Abdullahi balances secondary school, Islamic studies and exhausting domestic work arranged by her stepmother, Yadikko. Quiet, dutiful and determined to continue her education, Aysher carries the pain of growing up without her mother and must keep her difficult circumstances hidden from her father. Her life changes when she meets Ahmad Aliyu Hameed, a wealthy medical graduate whose reckless lifestyle includes women, drugs and a growing fascination with music. Sent away by his frustrated parents to continue his studies and learn discipline, Ahmad begins to reconsider his choices after falling sincerely for Aysher. Their relationship is tested by distance, family expectations and the dangerous attention of Hon. Mahmoud, who becomes fixated on Aysher and is prepared to use intimidation to get what he wants. As Ahmad tries to prove that he has changed, an old lover, Feedo, remains determined to reclaim the promises he once made.
