A Dalilin Da Namiji
Part One
By Billyn Abdul
A Dalilin Da Namiji opens with a shocking court case in Kaduna: Fatima Ibrahim has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing her stepson, Nasir, after dousing him with boiling water. Her husband, Alhaji Muhammad Yusuf, insists that justice has finally been served, while Fatima offers only a tearful phrase that hints at a story the public has not heard. As the narrative looks behind the verdict, Fatima’s difficult childhood comes into view. Orphaned young and raised by an uncaring uncle, she is pushed into a marriage arranged without regard for her wishes. The return of Nasir, a predatory young man recently back from Malaysia, brings a new and dangerous threat into the household. Alongside Fatima’s story, the novel follows Yasmin and the troubled dynamics of a powerful family, while Aysha recounts a childhood shaped by poverty and a father consumed by greed. Her account leads into the criminal and occult world of Alhaji Buba, where vulnerable people are exploited for money and sinister rituals. This first part builds a web of abuse, secrecy, injustice, and survival without yet revealing how its most painful threads will meet.
