A Daren Farko
Part One
By Billyn Abdul
Fatima Musa stands before a silent courtroom, accused of killing her husband, the respected Dr Khalifa. She offers no explanation, leaving her grieving family trapped between disbelief, helplessness and the fear that the case will end in her execution. Her mother Ummi refuses to accept the accusation and searches for legal help, even though the family can barely afford a lawyer. As the story moves back through the tangled relationships behind the tragedy, Dr Khalifa’s intense love for Fatima comes into focus. Fatima is already connected to another marriage arrangement, while Ummi’s own long-hidden feelings for Khalifa turn his request for help into a painful personal betrayal. Jealousy, family expectations and the pressure of public opinion draw several households into conflict. When efforts to influence the marriage become increasingly desperate, the characters must confront the consequences of love pursued at any cost. Suspense surrounding the murder charge frames this emotionally charged Hausa novel, while Fatima’s silence keeps the truth just out of reach.
