Aliyu is a successful, fiercely independent young man living in California, where he enjoys the freedom to fish alone despite his father’s insistence that bodyguards protect him. When his father persuades him to return to Nigeria, Aliyu expects familiar family pressure, especially talk of marriage, but he does not yet understand how deeply his life is about to change. In Suleja, Aneesa is introduced as a graceful, confident young woman whose quiet strength and devotion leave a lasting impression on him. Their relationship develops through affection, family involvement, misunderstandings and moments of emotional vulnerability. After Aneesa is rushed to hospital suffering from convulsions and a nosebleed, Aliyu is forced to confront feelings he has tried to dismiss. His heartfelt confession reveals that she has become far more important to him than he realized. Yet the family’s expectations and the arrival of Nafisa introduce new uncertainty, leaving Aliyu caught between personal desire, parental wishes and the complicated loyalties surrounding love. The story blends romance, family drama and cultural expectations as its characters search for what the heart truly wants.
