Princess Bilkisu has grown uncomfortable with the privilege and attention that come with palace life. Wanting to study without anyone knowing she is royalty, she persuades her father, the fair-minded ruler of Gombe, to let her move to Kano with the trusted Jakadiya, who must act as her guardian rather than a servant. Away from the palace, Bilkisu hopes to live and study like any ordinary student. In Kano, she crosses paths with Prince Adnan, a proud and difficult young man whose status has made him dismissive of others. Their early encounters are marked by irritation, misunderstandings and sharp words, but Adnan’s feelings begin to change as he learns more about the woman behind the quiet student. His close friend Abdullah becomes unexpectedly connected to Bilkisu’s world, helping expose the identity she has tried to conceal. As Adnan’s jealousy grows—especially when the charming Zaharandin begins spending time with Bilkisu—the royal secret threatens to reshape their relationships. Set across several Hausa royal households, the story explores pride, compassion, class, family ties and the uncertain beginnings of love.
